The number of collaborations in open source software is on the increase. Open source software is a program in which the source code is available to the general public for use and/or modification from its original design free or charge. Open source code is naturally created as a collaborative effort in which programmers improve upon the code and share the changes within the software community. Open source sprouted in the technological community as a response to proprietary software owned by corporation. It is an alternative to proprietary software and has gained much ground in the software industry with many organisations and other users going for it. This paper however discusses OSS, it examples and its impact OSS in the software industry.
